It was seen on x-rays of Gwen's lungs that she had PIE (pulmonary interstitial emphysema) in her left lung and they started treatment to try and push the air bubbles out of her lungs. They had to collapse the lung and they also used a medication to paralyze her so she wouldn't try and breath on her own because they did not want the lung to inflate at all. It was a heartbreaking time. So hard to see her so still and motionless and just having to wait and pray that her lungs would be healed.
Miss Grace was doing well, on and off the bili lights. She loved being swaddled. In this picture you can see a white glob on her nose. She had gotten a sore on her nose from the CPAP machine and they were treating it with an ointment hoping to heal it up.
They put Grace on a high flow nasal cannula and still hoping her nose would heal up.
My FIRST time holding Grace at 9 days old!! She was so tiny I could barely feel her on my chest, but it was the best feeling snuggling my little princess.
That same day after holding Grace for the first time we headed to Grandma and Grandpa's to celebrate Maddy and Hadley's birthdays. Grandpa and Grandma had gotten the cake for us.
These quilts arrived from my Aunt Susan and Aunt Deborah. When the babies were born so early they made a little receiving blankets for each of the girls that were perfect for in the NICU.
Holding Grace again.
A nurse, Judy, who was in charge of visiting us moms on antepartum had arranged for birthday cakes for Hadley and Maddy figuring we would be celebrating in the hospital still. When the babies came early she contacted me and got our address and still brought the cakes over. It was so thoughtful. She is an amazing woman who blessed my life and lifted my spirits at a very difficult time.
Hadley turned 3!!
